Illustrative planning template. Adapt these spoken lines with your organiser before a company Dinner and Dance in Singapore. Replace the bracketed fields with confirmed event details. These examples are not an actual event transcript or a description of what a booking includes.
Before the microphone
A lucky draw runs smoothly when these items are settled before the event, not on stage:
- Eligibility: who is in the draw? All registered guests, or a specific group? The organiser confirms.
- Entry identifier: confirm the ticket, table or entry code to announce. Use only the identifier approved for public announcement.
- Prize order: smallest to largest, or another sequence? Print the list.
- Presence and collection: confirm whether the selected person must be present and what collection arrangement applies. Record the organiser’s approved wording.
- Redraw rules: obtain the pre-approved rule and the person authorised to apply it. The emcee should not invent a rule on stage.
- Decision maker: name one person the emcee checks with if something unexpected happens.
- Roles: agree who operates the draw, who witnesses the result, who presents the prize and who announces.
Spoken blocks
Each block has a backstage cue (what happens before the emcee speaks) and words to speak (the line into the microphone). Replace every [PLACEHOLDER].
Block 1: Opening and approved rules
Backstage cue: Operator confirms system ready. Organiser gives the go signal.
Words to speak: “Ladies and gentlemen, our lucky draw is next. Tonight’s prize sequence is [APPROVED PRIZE ORDER]. Your entry is [APPROVED ENTRY METHOD]. Please note the collection arrangement: [APPROVED COLLECTION RULE]. For an absent or unverified entry, the organiser has confirmed [APPROVED RULE]. Let us begin when our draw team is ready.”
Block 2: Verified winner call
Backstage cue: Operator draws. Witness confirms the result. Operator signals the emcee.
Words to speak: “This draw is for [PRIZE NAME]. Our team has confirmed entry [APPROVED ENTRY IDENTIFIER]. Congratulations! Please follow [APPROVED COLLECTION INSTRUCTION]. [APPROVED PRESENTER HANDOVER, IF APPLICABLE].”
Block 3: Absent or unverified entry
Backstage cue: The selected entry has not been verified or collected. Check with the designated decision maker; do not infer that the person is absent.
Words to speak: “Entry [APPROVED ENTRY IDENTIFIER], please follow [COLLECTION INSTRUCTION]. [AGREED PAUSE]. Our organiser has confirmed the next step under the announced rules: [APPROVED NEXT STEP].”
Block 4: Checking a result without announcing
Backstage cue: Operator draws but something needs verification. The emcee does not announce until the witness confirms.
Words to speak: “Thank you for waiting while the team checks the selected entry. We will announce the result after it is confirmed. [APPROVED AUDIENCE INSTRUCTION, IF NEEDED].”
Block 5: Technical pause
Backstage cue: Draw system stalls. AV team signals the emcee.
Words to speak: “We are pausing the draw while the team checks the setup. [CONFIRMED NEXT SEGMENT OR AUDIENCE INSTRUCTION]. The organiser will confirm when the draw can continue.”
Do not promise a restart time you have not confirmed with the AV team.
Block 6: Grand prize and close
Backstage cue: Operator confirms last draw. Presenter in position.
Words to speak: “This final draw is for [PRIZE NAME]. Our confirmed entry is [APPROVED ENTRY IDENTIFIER]. Congratulations! [APPROVED COLLECTION AND PRESENTER CUE]. That completes the lucky draw. Thank you to [APPROVED ORGANISER OR SPONSOR NAME]. We now move to [CONFIRMED NEXT SEGMENT].”

Draw selection versus announcement
This template allocates selection to the operator, verification to the witness and announcements to the emcee. Agree any combined roles before the event. If a result needs checking, use the holding line rather than announce an unconfirmed winner. Confirm who supplies the draw system, prizes, staff and equipment in the booking scope; using this template does not make those items part of an emcee’s service.
Questions
Can James host company D&D games and lucky draw announcements?
Yes. James hosts dinner and dance events including audience games and lucky draw segments. His site covers D&D game formats and a games and lucky draw checklist for organisers. Confirm actual scope with him before booking.
Should I write the lucky draw script or will the emcee?
Either works. Some committees arrive with a detailed script; others share the prize list and rules and ask the emcee to draft the lines. Agree who writes, reviews and approves during the quotation discussion.
What if a winner disputes the result on stage?
The emcee pauses the announcement, refers the matter to the designated decision maker agreed before the event, and fills with a hold line until the decision is made. Agree this procedure in advance.
